Cetearyl Alcohol

Cetearyl Alcohol

Common name:

Cetylstearyl alcohol or cetearyl alcohol

Ingredient description:

It is a mixture of cetyl and stearyl alcohol. Cetylostearyl alcohol is an oily emollient with moisturising action. It is a completely safe substance with no irritant properties.

Cosmetic action:

Cetylostearyl alcohol influences the correct consistency of the cosmetic and increases its viscosity, making it easier to apply. It also acts as an emulsifier - this means that it stabilises the emulsion by allowing the water phase to combine with the fat phase. As an emollient, it softens the skin and forms a protective layer on the skin, which prevents excessive water loss from the epidermis. It therefore mediates the moisturising effect. It is excellent in cosmetics for dry and irritated skin - which is exactly what freshly tattooed areas are.
