Octyldodecanol

Common name:

Octyldodecanol

Ingredient description:

Octyldodecanol is an organic chemical compound from the alcohols group, commonly used in cosmetics. It can perform a number of functions in them. As a solvent for other ingredients, it allows them to be evenly distributed and mixed. In cosmetics that contain both aqueous and fatty ingredients, octyldodecanol can act as an emulsion stabiliser, helping to keep them homogeneously combined and preventing the product from delaminating.

Cosmetic action:

As an emollient, it helps to soften and smooth the skin. It forms a protective layer on the skin that prevents excessive water evaporation. Its moisturising properties are particularly useful for dry areas of the skin, which may be more prone to moisture loss. In addition, octyldodecanol can also help to maintain the intensity of tattoo colours by keeping the skin moisturised, which counteracts the drying and flaking that can lead to fading or dulling of colours.
